“As madeireiras estão se instalando”: expansão do agronegócio e as implicações socioambientais no território guaraná selvagem, Maués/Am

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the socio-environmental implications of the expansion of agribusiness in the Guaraná Selvagem Territory, located in Maués, Amazonas state. Using qualitative methodology based on the ethnography of reports collected in interviews to construct the social cartography: “Traditional Peoples and Communities of Maués - Amazonas, with the objective of understanding and describing the perspective of traditional communities on the agro-strategies implemented for the appropriation of their territories in the region of the Urupadí and Parauari rivers, as well as analyzing how these communities built a mobilization unit for territorial claims and resistance to these agro-strategies, focusing on the conflicts generated by the installation of logging companies. The topic is relevant due to the increase in socio-environmental conflicts in the Amazon, especially in territories traditionally occupied by Indigenous and traditional communities. The research aims to contribute to the understanding of these conflicts and to strengthen the voices of communities in the defense of their territories. The results of the research are expected to reveal the dynamics of occupation and exploitation of the Guaraná Selvagem Territory, as well as the impacts of logging activities on the living conditions of local communities and the environment. In this work are highlight agrostrategies for the exploration of traditionally occupied territories and the forms of resistance and strategies for mobilizing communities to defend their territories. The methodology employed, including Oral History and memory narrative analysis, provides a deep understanding of the experiences lived by the affected communities. The transformation of oral narratives into thematic historical sources contributes to a more complete view of the impacts of agribusiness and the resistance strategies of communities. Socially, the study aims to expand knowledge about the socio-environmental impacts of agricultural activities on the Amazon, promoting an informed and conscious debate on public policies and sustainable development practices in the region. The research also aims to strengthen the recognition and appreciation of the knowledge and rights of traditional communities over their territories. This research project thus seeks not only to document and analyze the impacts of the expansion of agribusiness, but also to contribute to the preservation of the memory and rights of local communities in the face of ongoing socio-environmental changes in the Amazon.
