O curso de Direito da Ufam: um olhar sobre a trajetória curricular

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the curriculum of The Federal University of Amazonas’ Faculty of Law undergraduate course, which were created in 1909 with a similar proposal to the existing law courses at the time in Brazil (São Paulo and Olinda) in order to prepare public servants to the new political order established and to ensure the bureaucratic independence of the nation. In this context, some questions about the proposed objectives still uncertain, namely: a) the formation of a critical mass to consolidate the sovereignty of the Brazilian people; b) the prime of justice for the restoration of social peace based on Enlightenment ideals; c) the strengthen of state power to perpetuate the control of the established authority. Divided into three chapters, the first is a brief summary of the method used in this research: the historical materialism. The second deals with the historical view of law as an instrument of emancipation or submission in every age, considering the first proposals and the structure of legal education in Brazil, based on the works of Sergio Adorno and Alberto Venâncio Filho. Finally, the third chapter discuss the historical context and the motivations that led Eulálio Chaves to propose and implement the law course in the University, by the analysis of the curricular proposals which arisen from legislative changes in order to, ultimately, provide a conclusion both critical and purposeful for the University’s law course curriculum.
